The Lake at Cromhall Quarry is proudly part of South West Maritime Academy, which ensures that our team is highly qualified and all sessions are closely monitored by lifeguards. Additionally, our on-site shop provides hot beverages, cakes, snacks, and a selection of swimming gear such as Zoggs open water wetsuits, thermal swimsuits, goggles, and accessories.

Divers can benefit from our affiliated clubs and schools for guidance, while experienced divers can explore alongside a buddy. We also provide cylinder filling and testing services. For paddle-board enthusiasts, we offer both self-launch and instructor-led sessions, with paddle boards and wetsuits available for rental.

Open Water Swimming

Experience open water swimming at our picturesque Cromhall Quarry venue in the stunning South West England countryside. Whether you're new to open water swimming or an experienced enthusiast, our venue caters to swimmers of all levels, offering a variety of advantages and experiences.

Kindly remember that participants must be 16 years or older and are required to wear a full-length wetsuit or utilize a tow float.

Cromhall Quarry Swimming Workshops

For individuals keen on venturing into open water swimming or enhancing their aquatic abilities, enrolling in our group workshops led by seasoned open water swim coach, Helen Webster, is an excellent opportunity. These workshops offer valuable insights and guidance through a 45-minute session focusing on safety measures and maximizing pleasure in open water swimming. Participants can ease into their first swim with ample support and no stress. Post-swim, everyone can unwind and savour a complimentary hot chocolate to reinvigorate themselves. Each session spans 2 hours and is priced attractively at just £7.50 per participant.

Scuba Diving

The Lake, a dive site managed by South West Maritime Academy at Cromhall Quarry, serves as a vital location for various diving activities. It is a popular spot for open water courses and is extensively used for rescue training and specialised training sessions. The site's characteristics make it perfect for honing skills such as underwater navigation, search and recovery, DPV handling, PPB, dry suit diving, and underwater photography/videography.

Divers have the option to join affiliated clubs and schools for guidance or explore the waters with a buddy if they are more experienced. The facility also provides cylinder filling and testing services to ensure equipment readiness.

Dive Info

To maintain a conducive diving environment, bookings for scuba diving sessions are limited to 75 divers per session. Sessions are available on weekends from 08:30hrs with departure by 16:30hrs, priced at £16. Please note that only one booking is allowed per account to manage capacity effectively. Paddleboarding

Experience the ultimate paddleboarding adventures at The Lake, located at South West Maritime Academy. Whether you're a novice or an experienced pro, we provide all the necessary equipment to ensure an unforgettable time on the water. We offer four paddleboarding options to cater to your needs:

  1. Bring Your Own: Join a 1.5-hour session using your own gear. A brief 15-minute induction is required to demonstrate basic skills. Buoyancy aids are mandatory and available for rent.
  2. Rentals: Enjoy a 1.5-hour session renting a board, paddle, buoyancy aid, and wetsuit if needed. A short induction ensures your comfort and safety during the session.
  3. Coached Session: This 1.5-hour session is perfect for beginners and families, with the flexibility to meet your preferences. Benefit from expert guidance throughout the session for an enhanced experience.
  4. One-to-One Coaching: Personalized coaching sessions are available with our experienced paddleboard coaches. For inquiries, kindly contact our team via email.

Paddleboarding Info

Please note that all paddleboarding sessions have a minimum age requirement of 10 years old. Participants under 18 must be supervised by a parent or guardian. Each booking is for one person per session. To ensure a seamless experience for all our clients, we kindly request that each account makes only one booking. Please arrive promptly for your scheduled slot to assist in keeping the activity on track for all participants.
